|| Lets talk travel. Something everyone loves to do. The thrill of seeing a new place, or the pleasure of a familiar place revisited. Travel is also something I tend to do a lot. I was also notoriously bad at it when I started out. I packed too much hand luggage in a non-wheelie bag, I wore the wrong things for long flights and didn’t have an iPad (granted these were not invented yet – am I giving away my age?) So here’s a run down on some travel tips – now that I have it a little more sorted.

1. A cashmere sweater. This is a necessity, it doesn’t get static (so none of that electric hair), its light weight but still keeps you warm in the icy plane. And you will use it on the other side, even if you are visiting a tropical island.

2. A pair of super stretch, skinny, cropped denims. Any, and every colour or pattern.

3. Easy to take-off/put-on booties. Flat or with a stacked heel, your choice. So, you can get them off fast through security check points. Also, it means you have some socks on for the flight to keep your feet warm. (Oh, and on the sock front, keep yours on and pull those flights socks they give you on over your own. Keeps yours clean on those bathroom trips.)

4. A punchy hold-all tote bag acts as a hand bag. Keep a little pouchette in the tote for your wallet, passport and all those other essentials. Make sure this bag isn’t too heavy!

5. Cool luggage tags makes your bag stand out from the crowd on the conveyer belt.

6. My lips take a beating on the plane, I have to keep them babies moisturised. This super slick and non-sticky balm is perfect.

7. And something a little bit travel inspired, or for the crafty ones out there, a diy map, tote bag of your travels. Do it before a trip, after a trip or while you wait for your transfer flight. Nice. ||

Sofia Coppola, film director

1. Acne jeans
Hex black.
2. My SC bag by Louis Vuitton
Navy, small size, I love it for everyday.
3. Prada
silk pajamas
4. Charvet shirts
I love ordering shirts there with Anne-Marie Colban.
She has great taste and is a perfectionist. I like to have a bunch when
I’m shooting so I don’t have to think about what I’m wearing.

5. Louis Vuitton cashmere legging pants
Super indulgent, great for the airplane or whenever you don’t want to get dressed.
6. Brora
Cashmere socks
7. Alaïa
Ballet flats
8. Céline
Classic navy coat
9. Marc Jacobs men’s cashmere sweaters
Crew-neck in navy or light gray.
10. Alexander Wang t -shirt dresses
I like basic ones: white, black or I have a gray with navy stripes.
11. Smythson fuschia Soho diary
I’ve been using these for years; always happy when I get
a new one to start the year. I like that you can see the week
and have a page for notes next to it.

12. Contax T3 camera
I always try other cameras and come back to this one.
I know I should use a digital one, but these pictures always turn out the best.

13. Araks underwear
We used these for the title shot in Lost in Translation,
and I’ve been ordering them ever since.

The Essentials

4 Apr

Alexander Wang, designer.

1. Ling Clearlight moisturizer
I use it day and night and it’s a miracle worker.
2. Aveda lavender conditioner
I use it every other day instead of shampoo as it has cleansing
components without stripping the hair. It also keeps my hair from
frizzing up and looking too “bouncy”.

3. Black Nike Dry-Fit ankle socks
They cut perfectly right below the ankle and is made of
a plush terry so they don’t wear down very easily and adds
extra cushion inside your shoes.

4. iPod
I don’t think I need to explain why this is a necessity for everyone!
5. Flowers from Miho
Anything I get from them always lasts so long. I love their arrangements
because they’re simple and not over the top, but they also have the rarest flowers
out of anyone in NYC.

6. Nha Trang
The best Vietnamese food in NYC and it’s only a block away
from work, so I go there at least 2-3 times a week. I’m definitely one
to prefer cheap eats over fancy meals.

7. Vita coconut juice
It is so refreshing when I want something more than just water.
8. Bliss minty soap bar
It has exfoliant in it, so it leaves your skin tingling after every use.
Really good in the summer.

9. Shazam
The best application ever. I am constantly using it whenever I hear
a song I don’t know. Two songs from it have already ended up in my shows.
10. Blackberry
I cannot live without it! It’s where I write all my inspiration
down when I don’t have a pen and paper.
