|| I was recently given Carine Roitfeld’s ‘Irreverent’ (thanks D). I have been a fan of Carine’s for a while now and have been truly inspired by the way in which she pushes boundaries and plays with fashion in order to make us look at an item of clothing differently. Her sense of humour shines through in her pictures in the minutest details and makes me really excited about wearing clothing.
The book is basically an extended interview by Olivier Zahn, interspersed with questions from various people within the fashion industry. The book opens up a small window onto a world that fascinates and captivates – a world that is not accessible to everyone and is therefore all the more alluring. One of my favourite moments while flipping through the book was when I reached a page with a very simple question by Ricardo Tisci on it – ‘What would Carine Roitfeld like to reveal about Carine?’

And her answer -
‘The way I really live:
Alqays flat shoes in summer.
Slouchy sweatpants at home.
A shot of vodka every night – even if I’m not going out.
Listtening to the same song over and over again on repeat. Today was ‘Your Song’ by Elton John.
I love twirling when I’m dancing.
Worrying about my kids, always.
Eating in bed in front of the TV watching ‘Damages’.
Not taking everything so seriously.’ ||

|| Cape Town is taking the meaning of Summer into its own hands and belting out days of 37 degrees. Apart from the high melting factor we can’t really complain – the beaches are beautiful and this kind of weather calls for all sorts of summer night funness. Up in the Northern hemisphere though Spring campaigns are starting to bloom. Here is one from Hugo Boss. ||

|| On the brink of a new year and contemplating the lucky life I am so blessed to lead. Summer in the Southern hemisphere is beaming down on my now very tanned skin (I don’t want to rub it in for those of you in the North, but it has been fantastic!) This year has been full of travels and some great time at home, loads of work and not enough blogging. I have to say it again, I plan to change the latter. So, I would like to say thank you all for your reading this year. And… hopefully next year you can all invite your friends to come read too. Have a very happy new year! ||

|| Summer is here and for some reason I am drawn to some super bright colours. Normally I am a pretty neutral dresser – even in summer, sticking to splashes of purple and red and yellow. We rented a house on the beach for the summer holiday and I think the thought of lounging on the beach and lazily walking around a sizzling little beach town is bringing on some colourful dreams. This weekend I bought a bright yellow dress that makes me look a little like a fairy and a pair of ‘pyjama’ pants that will successfully transform me into some sort of tropical parrot bird. I am happy! It is summer. ||

|| Angie Schmit channels a very convincing Jane Birkin, below. Birkin had an ease of style that only seems to be born with those French stars of the 60s. Her choices of classic, simple lines are elegant, sexy, boyish and girly all at once.

|| So, it is true that some of the girls we see in magazines and on billboards advertising sexy-ass lingerie and the next best fur coat are only 15. New Zealand photographer Aaron K has taken this dilemma and worked it into a story of his own. Something to think about. || Just in time to wish you all a happy Halloween. I am back from a small sabbatical that I forgot to mention. It was more a ‘collecting fashion pictures’ sabbatical than anything else, as I have sort of still updated my other blog. Read it here.
